You’ll need to be able to menu plan for specific locations, styles and situations, making the most of seasonal, local ingredients. There may be special dietary requirements to take into account and you’ll need knowledge of cooking on specific types of equipment – for example, an Aga. Family of seven (mum, dad, and five children, ranging in age from 10 to 5 months) seeks creative female chef with a passion for baking. Knowledge of pâtisserie, cakes, breads, etc. essential. Own sourdough starter a plus.

Responsibilities include:

*menu-planning (the family is adventurous and loves to try new dishes … we own a tortilla press and a sushi mat)

*grocery-shopping at nearby Waitrose (with online ordering of bulk and hard-to-find ingredients)

*preparation of lunch, dinner, & dessert (plus, breakfast to be eaten the next morning and packed lunches for the four school-age children). On Fridays, extra food is prepared for weekends & bank holidays.

*cleaning / organization of kitchen; inventory of ingredients / household items (such as washing-up liquid, etc.)

*laying of table & clearing up afterwards (dinner dishes will be done the next morning since the chef serves the meal and leaves; breakfast dishes will also be washed and kitchen tidied before lunch prep begins)

The chef must be able to cope with a lively, messy household where paper airplanes are flown and glasses of milk are knocked over. The kitchen is a typical size for a central London flat (small but cheerful with two windows and half-glass balcony doors).

In terms of holidays, it’s important that the chef not take long holidays during term time when the children are in school. Ideally, holidays are coordinated as much as possible with the family so that everyone is away at the same time.

They are hardworking parents with kids aged 9 and 12. They need someone to cook their evening meal and would like the chef to pick up their 9 year old from the next door school from 3.45pm and be in the house to child mind. Their children are independent and will do their homework etc. They are flexible on days, hours, pay and food. They live 5 minutes from Balham tube.

Family of 2 adults and 2 daughters (aged 11 and 9) is looking for a regular cook to prepare family meals. The role will involve cooking at their home in Barnes 2 or 3 times per week - approx 10 hours per week. They don't need gourmet meals, just delicious, healthy food. Adults enjoy meat and plant-based - they enjoy Ottolenghi style dishes. Husband cannot tolerate garlic or raw onion.

Daughters will eat separately and have simple dishes like pasta, meatballs, fish fingers etc. Parents would be delighted if the cook was able to persuade them to be a little more adventurous!

The role would suit someone who has done the Essentials course and is looking to freelance or someone who has taken the Foundation Certificate.
